Deloitte Joins Google Cloud’s Sustainability Program to Drive Climate Action

In a groundbreaking move, Deloitte, a trailblazing audit, consulting, tax, and advisory organization in the US, has become the first worldwide systems integrator to join the Google Cloud Ready-Sustainability Program. This strategic partnership represents a significant step forward in the global effort to combat climate change and advance sustainability goals through cutting-edge technology.

The Google Cloud Ready-Sustainability Program is a pioneering initiative aimed at validating the readiness of Google Cloud's technology to assist enterprises in achieving their sustainability objectives while minimizing carbon emissions. Deloitte, renowned for its sector expertise, will leverage this program to combine its industry knowledge with Google Cloud's powerful platforms.

One of the standout offerings to emerge from this collaboration is Deloitte's Electrified Fleet solution, soon to be hosted on Google Cloud. This innovative platform provides a comprehensive dashboard for tracking the electrification journey of vehicle fleets, harnessing global fleet telematics data, optimizing resource allocation, and monitoring environmental impact. Purolator, a prominent Canadian integrated freight and logistics company, has already embraced this solution with ambitious sustainability goals. They aim to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by an impressive 42% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, driven by the electrification of 60% of their last-mile delivery vans by 2030.

The collaboration between Google Cloud and Deloitte extends its support to financial services organizations seeking to employ geospatial analytics to identify climate risks in lending and investment portfolios. By harnessing the power of cloud-based technologies and artificial intelligence, this partnership empowers businesses to make informed decisions that contribute to a sustainable future.

Justin Keeble, the Managing Director for Global Sustainability at Google Cloud, emphasized the urgency of climate action in this decade and expressed eagerness to work alongside Deloitte and clients to accelerate progress. He highlighted the unique roles that both organizations play in addressing climate change through technological innovation.

Deloitte, known for its industry analyses and reports, such as the 2023 report on rising renewable energy demand, will now enable customers to translate these insights into actionable sustainability strategies using Google Cloud's advanced technology.

Jamie Sawchuk, Partner and Global Sustainability Leader for the Alphabet-Google alliance at Deloitte Canada, underscored the shared commitment of the partnership to mitigate climate risks, promote sustainable products and services, foster green communities and green jobs, and hasten progress toward a global net-zero future.

This partnership not only validates the importance of technology in addressing climate challenges but also offers a beacon of hope in an urgent decade where such actions are paramount for the future of our planet.
